What Are The Reiki Meridians?

When I got introduced to Reiki I spent a couple of months learning about the universal life force energy and the chakra system, until I finally became a level 2 practitioner. All this time in every video, article, and several books I read or watched, everyone talked about opening the chakras and flowing energy through the chakras.

But no one talked about the meridians even though they are a vital part of our body’s energy system and connected with our chakras. This was shocking to learn because we can improve healing in a Reiki session by incorporating and unblocking the meridians.

In this article, you will learn what are the Reiki meridians and how to use them during a Reiki session.

What Are The Reiki Meridians?

The Reiki meridians are a complex network of energy channels where Qi energy and blood flow throughout the body. There are 12 main meridians in the body of which 6 are yin meridians that flow energy down the body and 6 yang meridians that flow energy up the body. As well as other 8 extraordinary meridians which store energy or act as energy reservoirs for the body.

Based on Chinese and Hindu medicine, we have 2 bodies, the physical body and the energy body made up of meridians and chakras. When we use energy healing modalities such as Reiki, we are in fact healing the energy body which has a big impact on the health of the physical body as they work hand in hand with each other through the mind and body connection.

It wasn’t until the early 1960s that the meridians were recognized by modern medicine as the third vascular compartment of the body called the primo vascular system which is identical to the meridian network in the body.

The meridians flow into each other seamlessly, but each main meridian channel is directly associated with internal organs and can be used to heal issues of those specific organs.

As a Reiki practitioner, you will be able to improve energy flow and healing in a patient if you unblock pressure points in the meridians that are blocking the flow of energy. This will allow you to provide a better Reiki session by healing your patients deeper and faster.
