Reiki vs Sekhem (Seichem): The 7 Main Differences!

Do you know which is the most powerful form of energy healing?

There are hundreds of known energy healing modalities around the world that originated from different cultures and time periods in history. They all use different techniques with the same goal of healing your body, mind, and spirit as a whole by balancing your personal energy.

But there are two specific energy healing modalities with similar techniques that are considered to be the most powerful of all. Even though both can provide the healing you need, one is stronger for healing the body and mind, while the other is stronger for healing the spirit.

In this article, we are going to explore the differences between Reiki and Sekhem. Two of the oldest and most popular energy healing modalities in existence today!

What Is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese energy healing modality rediscovered by a Buddhist called Mikao Usui in the late 1800s during his journey of enlightenment, alone on a mountain for 21 days. Its main focus is to stimulate the body’s ability to heal itself by inducing deep relaxation and bringing back balance to the flow of energy in the body.

Reiki Meaning: Universal Life Force Energy.

What Is Sekhem?

Sekhem is an Egyptian energy healing modality practiced by the priesthood of ancient Egypt. It was later rediscovered in the 1980s by Patrick Zeigler while he was meditating inside the great pyramid of Giza and had a powerful initiatory experience. Its main focus is to heal deep emotional blockages and aid in spiritual development.

Sekhem Meaning: Power of Powers.

The 7 Differences Between Reiki And Sekhem

Both Reiki and Sekhem work the same way by channeling energy through the hands into a recipient and unblocking all energy pathways in the body to promote healing. For this reason, it is very common to think that they are the same and do the same thing. But in reality, they are actually very different, and here are the 7 main differences you should consider!

1. Their Origin

Let’s begin with the most obvious difference, the origin of both healing modalities. Reiki originated from Japan and was brought to the West by Mrs. Hawayo Takata in 1935 after she was healed from an illness that would otherwise have required surgery.

On the other hand, Sekhem originated from Egypt and was brought to the West by Patrick Zeigler during the 1980s after his experience inside the great pyramid of Giza.

Even though both energy healing modalities have been found in ancient religious texts that date back thousands of years, Sekhem is considered to be the oldest modality because references to its practice were found in Egyptian scrolls and hieroglyphs dated back to 2000 BC.

2. The Healing Purpose

You can receive powerful healing from both energy healing modalities, as they both unblock all your energy pathways and restore balance to the flow of energy in your body. However, each healing modality is specialized in a different kind of healing.

Reiki is mostly focused on the surface, as it is great for healing physical illness and pain by inducing your body’s ability to heal itself. It can also be used to heal emotional pain and spiritual ailment. On the other hand, Sekhem is mostly focused on deep-rooted trauma and spiritual development as it is a stronger force of energy that can go deeper within us.

3. The Vibrational Frequencies

Both Reiki and Sekhem work with energy, but they use different forms of energy that vibrate on different frequencies. Reiki uses the universal life force energy that surrounds all living beings in the universe and it is accessed on a high frequency. On the other hand, Sekhem has a strong connection to Sekhmet, the Egyptian lion-headed goddess of war and healing.

Sekhmet is known to be the guardian of energy that works by destroying all that is no longer of value in our lives and brings healing into our world. In other words, she takes away things that no longer serve us like repressed anger or negativity, and help us transform into our better selves. Because of this, Sekhem is a stronger form of energy than Reiki as it vibrates on a much higher frequency and it can heal deep-rooted emotional, mental, or spiritual issues.

4. The Healing Session

Getting a Reiki session and a Sekhem session might feel the exact same way, as you are comfortably lying down on a massage table or sitting down on a chair, and the practitioner is moving around you with relaxing melodies or sounds in the background.

But in reality, the sessions are performed in a very different way. In a Reiki session, the practitioner will start at your crown chakra and move down your body to the root chakra. This is done to start channeling energy in the spiritual level and ground that energy in the physical level, providing healing to physical ailments.

In a Sekhem session, it goes the opposite way, as the practitioner will start at your root chakra and move up your body towards the crown chakra. This is done to start channeling energy in the physical level and take that energy up into the higher dimensions in the spiritual level, providing strong spiritual development.

5. The Sacred Symbols

This is where most people get confused because Reiki and Sekhem actually share the same sacred symbols, but not all of them. In case you didn’t know already, sacred symbols are used to access different energies on different frequencies in order to channel a specific, focused, and stronger form of energy into the recipient. Like special keys that allow a practitioner to access different kinds of energies.

Reiki originally has 5 traditional Usui sacred symbols. Even though modern Reiki masters have found and developed more Reiki symbols, there are really only 5 symbols commonly used in Reiki. On the other hand, Sekhem has 9 symbols from which 4 are also found in Reiki and the Cho Ku Rei symbol is very different. The other 5 remaining symbols are unique to Sekhem and are accessed in a different way than Reiki.

6. The Attunement Process

To practice these two forms of energy healing, you will need to learn how to access and channel the energy by getting an attunement from a practitioner. This is very beneficial to get because it will raise your vibration to a higher frequency and allow you to channel a stronger form of energy.

The Reiki attunement process consists of getting one attunement per level for each of the three Reiki levels. This process is very relaxing and some people can get emotional during the attunement by crying, which is completely normal. After the attunement is over, the student who got the attunement will go through a 21 day detox period that is caused by the attunement to cleanse the body.

In Sekhem there is actually no attunement process like Reiki. They have an Initiation process that is commonly confused with an attunement, but it works in a very similar way to an attunement. There is no need to go through a detox period and there are no limits on how many initiation processes you can take. Some people vibrate physically during an initiation process because the Sekhem energy is very strong.

When you get a Reiki attunement, which is attuned only to the Earth elemental ray, the practitioner is the one who performs the attunement and channels the energy into you.

But when you get a Sekhem initiation, which is attuned to the 4 elemental rays of Earth (Reiki), Water (Sophi-EL), Fire (Sakara), and Spirit (Angeliclight), you are the one who opens up to the energy, and the practitioner is only there to assist you. Making the initiation process a more personal spiritual development journey.

7. The Training Period

Like everything else in life, there is a learning period for both energy healing modalities with different levels and required practice time.

Reiki only has 3 levels of training required to become a Reiki master. The advantage of this is that Reiki is very easy to understand and you will be able to practice it very fast. However, the disadvantage is that even though you completed the 3 levels which are fast to complete, you will not really grasp the true wisdom and discipline of this amazing healing technique until you practice it consistently for at least 1 year.

Sekhem has up to 7 levels of training to master the healing modality. The advantage of this is that students really go through a personal development journey and they form a stronger connection to the energy. However, the disadvantage is that there are very few practitioners teaching the 7 levels of Sekhem.

Conclusion

In the end, both energy healing modalities are extremely beneficial and you should choose the one that you feel more comfortable with. Reiki is an all-inclusive healing modality that has become very popular, making it very easy to find a practitioner in your home town.

But if you require healing of deep traumas or you want to embark on a journey of self-development, then Sekhem would be the best choice for you. Either way, you will have a great experience with both of them.
