Pranic Healing Vs Reiki: The 5 Main Differences

Energy therapy works under the principle that there is energy continuously flowing through the human body. An imbalance of this energy flow is what causes disease and other physical problems in your body. Energy therapy aims to correct this imbalance.

This article explores concepts that govern the application of Prana and Reiki, the pros, cons, and the difference between the two.

What Is Pranic Healing?

Pranic healing is a therapy that administers its healing power without the healer physically getting in contact with the patient through touch. It instead uses non-touchy ways, and its mode of operation is anchored on the principle that the body has an inbuilt mechanism to cure itself. It utilizes “life-force” or “energy” to facilitate the body’s inborn ability to heal itself.

Life-force is simply the energy that facilitates the healing process. This energy makes you familiar with the body’s atmosphere and teaches you to know which parts of the body are affected. This life force goes by many names,  including Qi, Chi, Ki, Prana, soul, etc. So pranic healing entails using Prana in healing.

Prana is the force that sustains life and exists in all living things. Without Prana, one’s consciousness and awareness cease to exist, which is as good as being dead.

How it works

Pranic healing corrects any imbalance in the life-force, which restores life to the patient suffering from a disease. The energy comes from inside the body and from the universe; the healer is not the source. The universal energy can be transmitted using unique frequencies and technology for a specific illness. It is a three-way process that stimulates the body’s inside ability to heal physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

What Is Reiki?

Reiki is made of two Japanese words namely, ‘rei,’ which means the universe, and ‘ki,’ which means life energy.  Therefore, it is safe to say that Reiki healing means healing with universal life force/energy.

The method entails the transfer of universal energy from the practitioners’ hands to the patient’s body. Reiki mainly targets areas within the body where energy is accumulated. This energy needs to be set in motion to facilitate energy flow.

Yes, energy could be stuck, blocked, or inactive in areas of the body where there is pain or injury. Energy blocks can cause diseases. Energy therapy, like Reiki, helps to jumpstart energy flow and to get rid of the blocks. When the flow of energy is enhanced in the body, it can help the body relax, reduce pain, speed the healing process, and reduce other diseases’ symptoms.

How it works

Reiki can be carried out anywhere, but it is mainly done in a peaceful environment where the patient will sit in a comfortable chair or lie down on a table fully dressed. Soft music can be played in the background, depending on the patient’s preference.

The practitioner carrying out the process places their hands on the affected area for about 2-5 minutes using different hand shapes. If it’s a burn injury, the hand is just placed on top of the wound. During this process, the practitioner can make their hands warm, and the energy transfer will eventually take place. The hand positioned on the affected area is held until the practitioner feels that the energy has stopped flowing.

The Difference Between Pranic Healing and Reiki

Although several healing methods can bring a positive experience to patients, the two most popular ones are pranic and Reiki healing methods. These two healing processes can be very different from each other in some ways, which include:

  • The pranic healing method usually starts with an energy evaluation of a person through scanning of their energy surrounding the body.  This helps to know the areas where there is less energy or congestion and focuses on healing the most affected parts. This type of technique is not usually performed in Reiki, which relies mostly on the healer’s instinct to help identify the parts with problems throughout the healing process.
  • After the evaluation, the pranic practitioner will use another technique known as sweeping, which eliminates the blockages and inactive energy to allow new energy to flow in the body. Reiki does not have this type of practice. Instead, energy flows out of palms and goes directly into the affected areas.
  • Pranic healing does not involve touching the body parts or areas which are affected. Reiki, on the other hand, involves touching the areas which are mostly affected.
  • Pranic healing helps its practitioner learn to draw and get energy directly from their surroundings and then direct its Prana into the energy fields of the patient. Reiki practitioners have to initiate signs to access healing energies.
  • Reiki healing can be done across the room or even from another part of the world through distance healing by the use of specific symbols and an experienced Reiki master. Pranic healing cannot be done through long distances.

So what are the pros and cons of each of these energy healing techniques?

Pranic Healing

Pranic healing is one of the most effective and followed healing techniques that have evolved over centuries.

Pros

  • With pranic healing, people can identify the problems and energy imbalances in the body. One can then immediately correct them using simple techniques that do not involve touching or using drugs. Anyone can do it.
  • Pranic healing gives inner peace. Once you get rid of all the negative energy in the body, you are able to reach a higher degree of inner peace and stillness. These are steps that help you experience higher levels of consciousness.
  • Pranic healing techniques teach us how to treat ourselves without visiting a hospital. It gives us the ability to improve our health issues using straightforward steps.
  • Everything in this world is made of energy. It is usually affected by rules and principles. This helps us be familiar with the energy used in the pranic healing process. By this, we can manage and control our health and life.

Cons

  • Pranic healing can also be dangerous, and it can cause damages to the body. It only treats symptoms that send signs to the person but cannot treat a more serious illness.
  • Pranic healing treats only symptoms and not the primary illness. This is dangerous because the person seeks attention to treat the symptoms and not the real disease. It can lead to life-threatening diseases if not checked and treated on time.

Reiki

Reiki is an old but simple healing process found to produce better results by touching the affected parts, having a positive mindset, and transferring energy.

Pros

  • Reiki healing promotes harmony and balance of the body. This means it is a technique that is effective in promoting the overall well-being of the body. All the body parts can restore balance by transferring energy to the body, which helps it function properly.
  • Many people love reiki healing techniques because it helps in relaxation and releases tension in the body. A person can clear their head, thus releasing stress and tension piled up in the body, allowing them to feel lighter and get in touch with their inner selves.
  • Reiki helps in spiritual growth and emotional cleansing. The positive energy transferred through Reiki is of great importance since it lifts the moods and the general attitude of a person towards health and life.

Cons

  • Those who have gone through the reiki process say that it can ease stress and pain, but there is no scientific evidence that supports these benefits.
  • It may cause discomfort during a session. During this process, the patient lies down on a table, and they have to hold still as the practitioner stands over them and won’t talk during this process. This may feel awkward and cause discomfort, which may lead to panic attacks for some people.

Conclusion

Both Pranic Healing and Reiki are effective at balancing the energy in a patient’s body and promote healing. A patient should choose the energy therapy he/she feels most comfortable with and always find a certified practitioner that has experience performing the therapy.
